They were a factory/dealer option & only came standard on the very rare Carlssons or with Airflow packaged cars. As far as Euro Aeros (Europe's SPG) I can't say if the tail came with it or not.

The SPG model is not truly a performance model, aside from it being turbocharged. It is just like any other 900 Turbo engine-wise, but with some extras in the interior and exterior. Extras that can easily be added to any turbo, or NA car for that matter. It was meant to be the top of the line for the 900, a car that came with *almost* every conceivable option Saab had available. ALL SPGs have gray leather except for 1985s, which have tan interiors (not sure if cloth was available for 85) The obvious differences are the panels (wider wheel well arch covers starting in 1988), SPG wheels, suspension (lowering springs starting in 86 and stiffer shocks, larger sway bar) and the stealthier de-badged look.

SPGs did not come with additional HP until 1990/1991, with the change over to the Mitsubishi turbo and the Red APC box (though I'm not positive the red box really does anything special)

1985 SPGs are only different by appearance (exterior paneling & wheels). The stereo you mention is not SPG-specific.

Larry West's site says it all anyway!

Bottom line: SPGs are awsome cars, but are not leaps and bounds ahead of a 900 turbo. They are rare (less than 8K ever made) and look freakin' awesome. They handle better than a normal turbo, but that is easily fixed. All of those panels weigh 30 lbs, though (we checked), so they actually slow you down! I like to call it the Special Perception Group.
