Minutes after posting my message, I realized that the boost retard may occur fast enough to avoid detonation, and would therefore be worthwhile. I cannot hear any detonation, although that does not mean there isn't any occurring. I recently ran a quarter tank of straight Cam2 (110 octane leaded) and noticed no difference in performance. (Don't worry, cat is hollow!) I just had to see, because the gas station across the street sells it.
I am just curious how this is all working...EZK is adjusting the timing through the ignition module and coil, and boost pressure is adjusting the timing through the turbo distributor I am using. Wish I could hook up my Tech2 and watch the timing as someone else drives!
Anyway, my boost performance is very interesting. I get 6-7 psi right away, steady, but if I am really getting on it, it will creep up to 8, 9, even 10 psi *sometimes*. Positive boost taper!! Sometimes it won't go above 7. Maybe my hooter valve is leaking...seems like a low pressure for that though. Maybe my wastegate actuator is leaking. In any case, if I disconnect the hose from the turbo to the wastegate, I get mega boost. What do you make of this?
Thanks again,
Eric H.
