Hey Vince, this sounds a lot like the problem I had last month, remember? It sounds like it might be ignition related, that being it's not the obvious being a 15psi fuel-cut, but that is usually much more sudden and jerky, and doesn't usually produce a sputtering effect. Is your timing good? How's the gap, and how is your distributor cap and rotor looking? Did you get anything wet? Any cracking? Did you wash the motor recently? Any water in the valve cover collected in the spark plug cavities? I know that you know all of this, but by repeating the obvious like you did for me really helps sometimes. I had an aftermarket cap on mine that wouldn't allow boost past the 10psi range. I saved a buck, and ruined the performance!(all fixed now)
If it's not ignition related, you want to check your intercooler boots and intake grommets. As you well know, the grommets can blow out under boost and then suck back in. The intercooler boots can bellow out exposing small leaks, only to retract back and hide the leak. I know how redundant this all sounds, but if your A/F is good, it makes me believe that it might be something else. Let us know what you find.
