my understanding of knock is that it is detonation of fuel not caused by the sparkplug. I don't think changing to a colder plug will help you here. My understanding of heat range is that you want a certain tip temperature to keep the plug clean but not so hot as to melt the plug. Turbocharging and hard driving tend to increase combustion chamber temperatures so you put in colder plugs to keep the tip temperature down so the plugs don't melt. As I see it the plug temp is a reaction to the combustion temp and not a controller of it.
