...your low altitude. Under normal conditions (at or near sea level) the Viggen needs about 16psi of boost to produce its specified 230 bhp. The turbo, however, is capable of 20psi. That's where "overboost" kicks in. In 3rd-5th gears you can floor the accelerator and get overboost which is a utilization of all 20psi of available boost. That extra 4 psi of boost gives you something like 245bhp and 273 lb-ft. Unfortunately the overboost is only available for short periods of time (about 20 seconds) and then boost reduces back to the normal 16psi while internal engine components cool down. Once normal temperatures are reached, the overboost is available again.
