Although I dont have any experience with the T5 system I can assume it uses the MAP sensor in conjunction with an air temp and Throttle position sensor to determine engine load. Without the MAP sensor it would not know when or how much boost the engine is getting, and could not adjust the fuel. The O2 sensor is strictly for emissions and allows the car to run cleaner when not under high load. The resistor would probably trick the ECU into believing the boost was lower which might screw up the fuel mix too.
