MAP sensor

Hi all,
I heard that it is possible to replace the MAP sensor with resistor (330k ohm) to get round this annoying cut-off fuel boost detection. My question is - what is the role of MAP sensor in Trionic T5 system apart from detecting max. allowed boost? The air-fuel ratio is controlled by O2 sensor, knocking is detected by DI cassete and spark plugs - so what is the role of it?
I want to admit that I'm thinking about 15psi of boost max., but since I have a LPT engine, the max. allowed boost is 9psi (0,6bar). That is why I'm thinking of replacing the MAP sensor.
thanks for your help
Mariusz
