It is made of carbon steel and will rust. I primed and painted mine. See post below. The surface treatment is a phosphate treatment or 'Parkerized' (sp?).
The steering will be vastly diffent. I expect that once you get used to it you will be turning the steering wheel a lot more than before and the back end will seem to be heavy. But once you get use to driving a different system it will seem natural enough.
