OK, I did have to remove the vacuum servo for cockpit air intake to get the radiator-looking thing out from the firewall (maybe my terminology is wrong). I could have left the servo attached but would have destroyed it removing. I reattached it when finished and it works fine.
And I did have to cut the alternator belts - you have to swing the alternator out of the way because the bottom mounting bolt for the compressor bracket is too long (on my car, an 85 SPG) and will hit it if the alternator is in place. I found that out the hard way - painstakingly pulling the bolt out until it hit the alternator body. Besides, it's a bitch to get down in there with a wrench if the alternator is in the way.
Originally I just cut the belt for the compressor (which is tested and dead) but I wanted to pull it out completely (along with the rest of the AC system) because it makes it a hella lot easier to work on the other belt-driven components. And 50lbs is 50lbs - every bit of extraneous crap pulled off makes the car a little lighter.
