Mike,
I believe that they will work.
A couple of years ago, I took my 91 900t conv. on a little road trip. When I returned, I put it up on the lift to change the oil and notice the outer boot was torn. (it was okay before the trip)
I had planned another trip for the next day, a Monday. I pulled the axle, cleaned it up, and noticed wear in the outer CV. I attempted to find a replacement axle, but no luck on a Sunday.
I had a new axle for my 89 spg, so I removed the ABS ring from the 91 CV to put it on the new CV. The ring inside diameter was about 0.003" too small to fit the 89 CV. I bored 0.0025" from the ABS ring, heated it up and installed it on the new CV.
I got the oil and filter changed and was ready for Monday's trip.
I don't recall the axle lengths being any differant from the 89 to the 91, but if they are you could always swap the ends from the axles and use the original axle shafts with the new tripod bearings & new CVs.
good luck.
Jon
