Hi there, the following is a repost I put in the main forum. I'm new here and still feeling my way around. Sorry. :-)
I got the answer I was looking for I think, but just wanted to post this over here as well. I'm a totall turbo waco who builds things like 450hp Nissan Sentras and whatnot. I don't plan on going "crazy" with the Saab as it's a daily driver but do wish to muddle around a bit with it.
"Well my new 89 Saab 900T has had an erratic boost habit with the owner before me, and has not gone into what I think is base boost. (About 1/3 way into the yellow no matter what)
Based on the other extremely high strung turbo cars I have built, I'm thinking about just canning the APC and using a modern electronic boost controller set at 10-12psi with the base timing kicked back a degree or two. I just picked the car up and don't have a Bentley to seriously dig into the ins and outs of the APC control. Are there any unforseen problems like "boost cut" or the computer going into "Failsafe" mode when the APC is disabled? I'm not concerned about detonation, blowing up yadda yadda, but more about what effect losing the APC will have on the engine managments ability to do it's job providing fuel. I will be installing a real boost gauge and EGT probe to worry about that stuff, plus run mostly 100+ octane fuel most of the time.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I'll be self sufficient pretty soon, please excuse my Saab "newness" ;-)"
