long before spearco was bought out by turbonetics, I talked with spearco guys, with george spears? present and indirectly answering my questions.
using scfm ratings for ICs is not a standard method, just what george did.
I'm sure he used the approximate hp formula I provided, based on typical bsfc and a/f for turbos. garrett does same thing to relate air flow and hp.
it is a logical way to quickly rate a lot of sizes, ball park power, and compare differences. One can always sharpen the pencil, determine their own hot flow rate into IC and out, get an ave, and compare against the cold flow charts for pressure drop.
your formulas are correct, with assumed bsfc and a/f, and both can vary depending on engine specifics. as an extreme case, for 3rd gen rotary, typical is .6+ and 11:1, not very efficient.
If Jeff gets the unit I mentioned, no calculation needed for pressure drop...
