Depends on many factors, largely driver, model year and 5 spd versus automatic (for the Ford). I traded in my '88 SPG yesterday, owned a '93 5.0L mustang and currently own a '96 Cobra Mustang. Correct, the '96-'98 4.6L 2V (GT) mustangs and the '94-'95 5.0 cars are not strong, compared to the earlier 5.0 cars, mainly due to extra (body style) weight. The mustang GTs from '99 and up are quick, due to added torque. So, unless one knows the specific parameters of that mustang, impossible to tell if the SPG would win. FWIW and sorry if off topic too much, my cobra mustang dynos at 287 rear wheel hp, with just a few bolt-ons, and has run a 13.7 at 106 mph in the quarter mile. Not bad for a "tiny" 281 ci motor. Now, would my new ('99) Viggen beat my cobra??? Oh, and I bought the cobra new, in '96, when I traded in my '95 900 SE turbo coupe. I reported this to a Saab web list at that time, and somebody responded: "congratulations, you are now the envy of white trash everywhere." Ouch! Never forgot that one...
