The longitudinal c900 configuration is kind of special in two ways:
* The pulley/valve timing side (hence #1 cyl.) is near the firewall and flywheel/clutch at the front of the car, i.e. the engine is "put in backwards". Great for clutch repairs.
* The engine sits _on top_ of the gearbox, slanted 45 degrees. Most longitudinal FWD designs (Audi, Volkswagen Passat) have the engine _in front_ of the gearbox, so the whole weight of the engine is placed considerably before the front axle line. You can guess what's best for weight distribution...
The coolest FWD config IMO is that of the Saab 9X (OK, thats AWD, but based on a FWD platform) and Buick Bengal concept cars: transverse, but turned around 180 degrees so the engine's weight sits _behind_ the front axle line. Both cars are based on the new GM Epsilon platform, but unfortunately it doesn't look like any of the production cars with Epsilon underpinnings will take advantage of that possibility within the concept. A d*mn shame if you ask me - Saab could well have rewritten the book for FWD compact exec saloons... Oh well, maybe the 9-3 generation *after* next?
