cylinder of exhaust gasses. Put in simpler terms it takes advantage of the pulsing effect of the exhaust gases to actually suck in more intake (regardless of having the turbo "pushing" the intake into the cylinder). The old strokers entire exhaust systems were designed as long headers and boosts what HP they could wring out of those engines.
Being into RC model airplanes, the little 1.4 Cu.In. engines have the same accessories and we're getting over a HP per inch. Not bad for a 7lb plane! Of course we're also turning as much as 11,000 RPM. In any case the same principle applies: gets a better charge in, and accelerates the exhaust going out. With the turbo right behind, it can only be that much better!
