A torque curve ideally comes on early and stays relatively flat across the RPMs' A turbo engine can by this way.
Getting low end torque in a turbo engine has several issues. Waiting for boost to start is not much fun. With most OEM setups, the boost delay is largely created by the boost control system. And that delay is not the characteristic of the turbo itself. A MBC will allow the turbo delay to be reduced to the turbo's own lag. Note that reducing turbo lag will make a vehicle much faster on the street, but for the same boost pressures the HP as measured on a syno would not appear to be any different.
Saab with the NG900's used to boast that the engine could develop peak torque at 2200 or 2300 rpms. That was very much a deception, because that torque cannot be developed at those low rpms in real life. If you have engine dyno and load the engine at 2300 PRMs you could get a steady state peak torque at that engine speed. But you will be hard pressed to think of how you could achieve this while driving.
