For any given driving interval, the amount of kinetic energy dissipated into the brake rotors does not change.
Grooves and holes probably do not improve the heat transfer to the air. So lighter rotors with holes/grooves may actually run hotter.... less mass, same heat.
Modified rotors will help reduce fading created by the pads outgassing, otherwise they reduce the friction surface and reduce braking effectiveness for sitations where the temperatures are not high enough to cause the pads to outgass.
