On the Saab: I bought Frictiontech from the Brake Warehouse. These work pretty well, altough I haven't taken them to the track. BTW, my first 3 weekends at the track I used the stock pads without any real problems. Sure the pads started to fade a little, but my skill level was still less than the ability of the brake system. BTW, this is for a n/a 2.3 NG900. If you want race pads Porterfield makes a compound as well as Mintex. I don't know if Hawk or Performance Friction do, they make so many I'm sure they do.
On the Volvo 850, I went with O.E. pads and have not had a squeal since replacing.
On the M3 (street and track toy): I have been using stock for the street. I bought a set of Hawk HP Plus, sort of an auto-x high pro street compound, for when I wear out the stock. They squeal like a garbage truck when cold though. Last time I went to the track, I used Hawk Blue on the front and the HP plus on the rear. No problems stopping from 130 to about 40 on the front straight, just toss out the boat anchor and let the harnesses do their thing. I actually had to modulate the brakes, I suppose I could have waited a little longer to start braking.
