you wanna spend. Typically the first step (which I have done) is tune the car to a t. Make sure base boost is set correctly to 5.5 - 6psi. (see Bentley or search listings here under base boost) change plugs/wires/filters/vacuum hoses/grommets to make sure you are getting spec performance. Only then and only then start the fun. I have opted for redbox APC upgrade See http://www.geocities.com/tv41mxa/tweakyourapc.html I have combined this Apc upgrade with a 3 bar FPR and 18 degrees BTDC timing. Now boosting 50% red and holding slightly thereunder...probably making 190-195 horses.
If you want to go further you may consider more expensive RRFPR, open K&N airfilter, 3" exhaust, 24# upto 30#/hr fuel injectors (from Ford Mustang). Generally to make it work, more advance than the stock distrbutor is now needed. Most people use the MSD electronic boost timing. Some have posted how these units should be dialed in. At that point you will want to upgrade suspension and brake bits too.
My reasons not to go further (yet??)at this point is the longevity of my tranny. Most people will eat up trannies like crazy when you get into the seriously 200 + HP range. If you don't mind search the board and have fun. The above URL even has link to M6 values for APC. You may fly with those settings..until your tranny flies in a generally different direction than the rest of the car!
