900/9000 rotor sizes, 900 upgrades Posted by Kevin K [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: I run the 88+ 9000T/90+ 9000 N/A front brakes, Eric van Spelde, Sat, 16 Mar 2002 15:57:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
front rotor dia/thickness, mm:
280/12.8 early solid 900 rotors (front e-brake)
280/20.0 86/7 vented 900 (front e-brake)
280/23.5 M88+ C900, M87-88 9K NA
280/25.0 M90-97 9KT
you got the most for your 85 900T out of the swap game! I think the track-only DS-3000 pads are what u feel as the big diff ... high friction and can take a lot of heat.
Since all rotor dia's are the same, and I think all are single piston with same piston size, initial stop power will be based largely on pad material. For the track, or fully loaded going down a mountain, the solid fronts will fade quickly, and the wider the vented rotor, the less fade, and better cooling between brakeing points on track.
The 20mm is the obvious simple upgrade for solid front rotors. If going for a full conversion like u did, makes sense to go for the 9K 25mm set-up. That caliper does offer a more optimized pad, with more mat'l at the outer arc. Not sure the 25mm is worth the hastle if u have the 23.5 already.
