maybe i don't get it. if you have 200psi of pressure on the back side of a pad and the pad is 4 square inches, you have a resultant force. now say put on a larger pad with 6 square inches you have a resultant force. each pad is experiencing a 200psi force on the back side, but one pad has a larger surface area. larger surface area with the same force will have greater friction. take a rectangular block and stand it on end. push it across the table. now lay it on its side, push again. in both situations, the weight on the table was the same. however, greater force was required in the second situation because of greater surface area. not a common myth, just physics...
