I read all of the posts....
The koni's do have a shorter threaded section. The strut mount bottoms out on the shoulder at the end of the reduced diameter and threaded section, along with the lower buffer washer. These are the only two things that determine the fit. If the spring seat was some how caught in there that would cause problems, or the lower buffer washer. Got the lower buffer washer part number side up? So you could fit up these items with the spring and bump stop set aside, and study and take measurements. The KYB mount is not part of the problem. Many have Koni's with stock mounts.
Yes, you could have been shipped the incorrect shock part....
Don't worry about final fit. Yes you need to be confident that you have the right shock.... But just put on the nut only. Then install. With the wheels mounted and tires on the ground taking all of the vehicle weight, remove the top nut, then do the lock washer and nut and torque it up. This is perfectly safe, the vehicle is compressing the spring. If you don't havethread engagement then, then there is a serious situation.
What you are seeing is a signal to take things apart and review your assembly.
Did you also read my post on the strut mount replacement as well?
