from under the upper control arms. Adding shims equally under each end of the upper control arm increases negative camber. Removing shims equally under each end of the upper control arm increases positive camber. Caster is changed +/- by the ratio of shims relative to each end of the control arm.
It has to be done with the engine in the car because first of all, the drive shafts need to be attached to the transmission, and second, the car needs to be loaded with the engine weight because the ride height of the body relative to the upper control arm attachment points on the body and wheels effect camber. For example, if you lower your saab, this will increase negative camber.
