I guess that you could double up the SAS and Abbott bars!
Anodizing is specific to aluminum. What you have is I think what used to known by a trade name 'Parkerizing(sp)'. I can't remember what it is technically, but it will not stand up to the wet and salt on the road. It is cheaper that painting and will prevent steel parts from rusting on the shelf or in protected enviroments.
Anodizing of aluminum creates a layer of aluminum oxide on aluminum parts. this layer is very hard and non conductive. Some of the alloying elements in the aluminum are incorporated into this layer and can impart a color to the layer. In some cases the aluminum is alloyed to produce specific colors. The parts can also be dyed and the oxide layer which has an open honeycomb structure at this point is then sealed in a later processing step which closes the pores with aluminum oxide growth.
