Are you actually hearing pinging, or does the APC just cut boost back once it hits 15 psi?
With that much retard under boost, you definitely shouldn't have any pinging, especially with the fuel pressure you are running, which is almost identical to what my Trent RRFPR is set at. I only have my car set to retard to 10 degrees however, same distributor mod that you have.
When I mistakenly set my base timing at 16 degrees, thus boost retard at 6 degrees, the car would hold 21 psi no problem, and 22-23 on nights as cold as you describe. That four degrees makes a huge difference in my car..
Anyhow, your A/F ratio per the dyno sounds just fine. One thing I do notice on my car however, was that sometimes if I nail it when near/above the torque peak, boost will max out extremely fast, and the APC will kick it back. Whereas, if I go WOT from say 2000 rpm, thus let the boost build slowly, boost will peak at 2700 rpm or so, and hold there. I just made another APC adjust last night, so I hope to have the problem fixed, albeit with a lower max boost..
Good luck tracking down the problem!
