The ball-spring MBC units do not apply pressure to the wastegate actuator until the boost iw well up. This stops the wastegate from being cracked open before boost builds up. Early opeing of the wastegare greatly increases the time that it takes to get boost pressure. This is controller induced lag that does not represent the lag of the turbo unit itself. The stock systems BPC valve is an electrically modulated bleeder valve, which does make a lot of boost lag. If a check valve is inserted in the inlet line to the BPC valve, then this would provide for faster spoolup, but not likely any increase in boost pressure. But it could make the engine much more responsive and thus faster. But the check valve needs to have the correct 'cracking' pressure to work optimally. An adjustable unit would be good, but perhaps the WW checkvalves just happen to do a decent job.
A good setup like this, or a ball-spring MBC will allow for the turbo to spool up with its inherent lag, which for the small turbos in these vehicle, means the turbo will spool very quickly.
For city driving dynamic response equals power. Frist guy on boost wins. A vehicle with much more power that can't get on boost fast enough is a dog.
