the only reason I got my 2.5" catback exhaust was STRICTLY performance. I didn't care about noise at all. If it was quieter than stock, cool, if it was terribly loud, cool. My car has the power to push exhaust fumes through the 2.5" piping, glasspack, and high flow cat. Don't generalize. However, I do agree... ALOT.. not ALL, young people are simply putting mufflers on their cars for the noise. They don't care if the performance is actually hurt. Very stupid IMHO. My cousin (16yrs) who bought my 89 900S, wants to put 3" catback exhaust on his NA car... because.. you guessed it.. deeper noise. Let's see if he can get ANY backpressure at all, especially in 4th & 5th. I think I talked him out of it though. I hope. My other friend 30+yrs put a big flashy muffler on his SAAB. Easy to blame us youth.
