ratio surface area difference between the two filters. if we take both filters and attach them to the same vacuum, the pressure drop per sq ft will be greater for the k&n due to the smaller surface area. meaning we are trying to move the same amount of air through a smaller area. it is understandable that the higher pressure difference on either side of the medium will create a greater tendency for dust to be forced through.
for an air filter tha has a 525% greater surface area (bmw) i think it is pretty poor that it only prevents less than 3 gm/sqft more than the k&n from getting through. just my 2 cents.
