First let me say that I have just taken it on it's first ride(50 miles) and the car doesn't have the Cat Converter installed at this point, only straight pipe. It's interesting I guess, cause without the cat the cars kinda loud. Throaty for real but, kinda loud also. The new cat install next week will fix that though.
1. I did notice that the power(boost)does come on quicker/stronger than before. It feels good and gets to 15 psi from -10 Hg in like 2-3 seconds flat. This was with me punching it while in 5th gear doing 75mph @ 2,900 rpms. However the boost doesn't seem to go as high as it did with the stock exhaust. I was getting about 18 psi before, now more like 16 psi, perhaps I wasn't pushing it far enough? will do more test though because I was using 91 octane -vs- the 93 octane I usually get. Something I did notice though, I posted a while ago that I'd never been able to get more than 10 psi in 1st or 2nd gear, that's gone now... if push it really hard in either of those gears the front end feels like it jumps up. It never did that before. That's both good and bad. Good that it reaches that amount of boost, bad cause it leaves me to believe the front end isn't stiff enough and that hurts traction and a few other bad things about that in general. I need the front end to stay planted to the ground. Bilsteins will help yes? Also noticed that the boost would kick back as if either ignitin or fuel needs some help. It wasn't cool out tonight though, probably like 80 degrees or so, and I was using 91 octane. The last part is that with these cars the fun(boost) starts at about 3,000 rpms but seems to fall a good amount around 4,500 rpms. That's a very short range of FUN! Maybe Swedish Dynamics cams would work for this?
Also because this place is so hot(was 94 F here today in South Georgia)I may want to get that Water Injection I've been keeping my eye one.
I've heard that the JT 3" downpipe will make the turbo more audible? That's very true, I can now hear the roar of the turbo as if it's in my lap. Not too bad though, just gotta get used to it I guess.
So what do you guess think?
I think I need to do a few more things to help pull it all together, what I really want is the power of 15 psi everywhere... probably asking to much as usual huh? Probably gonna get the following to help out with the few concerns I've got. After them maybe look into bigger turbo or head work yes/no?
1. AID or MSD (Ignitions stock right now)
2. Water Injection
3. Trent Saab bigger/better wastegate
4. Trent Saab RRFPR
Thanks
