TROUBLE IN A RIVER CITY

My 1988-9000t with-135k has a few mods.( Dawes MBC) ( three bar fuel pressure regulator) ( 2-1/2 no cat exhust ) (K&N filter with modified air intake) I am still running stock fuel injectors. 24's# or 30's# is the next mod. I have a new double ground oxygen sensor with a (Dawes) air fuel meter that works very well. I know i am running lean. At w.o.t. I am getting a red light (too lean) The plug coloration is gray but almost white. I have the MBC set at 10 to12 lbs. of turbo pressure. I've done a lot of pulls running lean but would not stay at w.o.t. for more than 3 seconds. I've never heard any knock from the engine. Anyway I had to pull off the road off the road because the turbo blew the gromet out of the end of the intake manifold. I pushed it back in and safety wired it. (you don't want this to happen ) The car ran fine. When I got home and checking the engine I could hear a knock at 2000r.p.m.. I could not hear it at a higher r.p.m. How can I check this out further? Thanks for listening Ron.
