You can have the existing engine rebuild, generally that's to the tune of $4000 and up. Or, you can search for a good used engine to put in there. I chose the latter, as it only cost me about $2000, and the engine had just over 100k miles on it, so it should be good for at least that many more.

Hard to say what exactly caused your problem, but I believe too much running lean could certainly do it. I think in my car it was more just age and wear - plugs never showed too lean, but it did burn up some oil, about a quart between changes. My 'new' engine doesn't burn a drop.

You might consider removing the MBC and going back to APC control, that way you will be much safer, as the engine will be able to protect itself. Though a 3.0 bar FPR is enough fuel for 10-12 psi, it will not be at higher RPMs, say 4500 rpm+, I'd bet, if you are running 10-12 psi at those rpms and using boost, that will be quite lean.

I know you said you only do full throttle for three seconds max, but if you do that 200 times over the course of a year, and are lean every single time, I'd imagine there is some type of cumulative wear..

I don't see ANY reason you should be changing the oil every 500 miles, no matter what kind of oil you are using. You say it was a quart low, that would be below the minimu, because as I recall, there is only a half quart difference between the MIN and MAX. If you've been running a half quart low, ie half quart below min, for an extended length of time, that could possibly also be a contributing factor.
