Yes to stiff of a suspension is not good. Where the rubber meets the road is the key to all handling. I have made SAAB chassis that are tortional correct with roll cages tied it to the critial point as well as the spring pearch areas. Most of the people doing street driving are not ready to have this much intrusion on the personal space. The largest flex area on a classic 900 chassis has been from the windshield forward. The 99 was better in that the "A" pillar extended down to the wheel well housing. It was a much stiffer chassis in that respect.
Smooth drive is aways a key to fast laps my daughter was on of the bes in this area in the class that she rased in at that. We had meased on the g-analyst her lateral g forces and she could mantain a 1g+ throught the turns and not over heat the tires, this was still circle tack racing but not bad for a 16 year old.
But back to what I am offering. It will be the chose of spring rates( allowing each person to adjust the car to his or her style and not have to live in a cookie cutter world) it will also allow for heigth adjustment so that is you want to show the car on Sunday setting and ralley on Monday you can do this with out a lot of hasle.
As for turly compliant suspension I learnd to drive on D model Citroens.
