what specs do you have for the 2.1L cams? The specs I have show no difference in overlap but a different lobe separation.
So you like it for the lower end then. Sooner the intake cam closes to 40deg ABDC, closer the actual compression ratio gets to theoretical compression which would improve bottom end and help reduce lag. The negative would be a reduction in max boost compared to a cam closing farther after 40deg ABDC. I can see it being an advantage for a larger turbo like a T3-60 b/c of driveability.
I'm not really impressed by the 85 intake cam. It improves topend a bit compared to 240 cams but I can definitely feel a good loss through out the rpms compared to 252 and 240. The loss in total lift for a chance that it might prevent detonation is not worth it. From my opinion, cyl heads after 85 were evolved and really shouldn't be mixed w/ the 85 cams; they just were designed for them. I gave them a try anyway just to definitely confirm the results.
The 2.3L intake w/ an 85 exhaust combo will give a 246/246 dur w/ 23deg overlap. I just haven't had the time to do the swap since I've been slowly moving to a new apartment. Ever give the combo a try?
What were the cam specs from the early prodution 900s 16v non turbo?
