adjusting the base boost, does not in anyway effect the max boost. So I doubt there is any engine damage that could be linked to that. I think the only effects will be better/faster spool up. The wastegate rod is the metal rod that connects the wastegate arm on the turbo to the BPC selnoid. Go to the link below to see some info from townsend.
