My problem is that I can't get a coherent story out of most tuners as to what they are doing. On the other hand the a few tuners are ready and willing to discuss what they are up to at least to a limited extent. One interesting fact is that Nordic and Hirsch state that they have access to Saab Tronic information for specific model years (one assumes via a non-disclosure agreement with Saab).
Thus it can concluded that many tuners use a process of disassembling / trial and error to remap the ECU (very typical in the world of tuners). (I have no definitive information on who actual uses Saab data and who doesn't.) I should note that technically with sufficient testing there shouldn’t be any difference in the end.
Thus now who would you trust to tune your ECU?
