Just to pre-set a MBC? Don't bother. Just hook it up and start adjusting. I assume that you gave a boost guage. But how accurate are boost guages?
The MBC's setting will depend on the wastegate actuator to some extent as well.
If you had shop air and a regulator, you could connect the installed MBC and adjust it that way, watching the wastegate move etc. That is how base boost should be set too, connecting directly to the actuator.
I created a test manifold with a fitting to snap onto my shop air. It has a 1" hose barb for my pop-off valve, and on small barb for my boost gauge, which removes very easy from my Saab, and a hose barb to provide pressure to the pressure regulator that controls the pop-off valve. That was interesting to use. But sounds like overkill for a MBC.
(My pop-off valve is really a blowoff valve where the regulator pressurizes the blow-off valves hose barb to allow the pop-off pressure to be regulated with the pressure regulator knob. So I had to see how it worked and test to see if it was going to work at all etc. I did get it roughly dialed in before installation. I might put a softer spring in it which and then dial the pressure ip. This might improve its control and reaction speed etc. A bench test rig was definately good to have in this case. It was also good to use the same guage that I drive with, the same boost guage. That eliminates problems with differences between guages.)
