Drill out the stop and replace with a bolt who's head you have filled into a cam. When in place you can adjust the amount of retard externaly by twisting the bolt. Early vacuum units have less of no progression in the way they apply retard - it's all at once - if you can get one off an LPT car it should have a more gradual retard action as well as more absolute retard.
