In California, it's illegal to tamper with anything between the air meter (mass, flow, whatever) and the O2 sensor. So, pretty much everything... At least the downpipe is after the O2 sensor on a c900, so that's legal!
I've heard the same about equal-length manifolds on Turbos, but I respect the guys at SPD - like I said, they are pretty famous in the area for the I4 and V8 headers - they're works of art. My simple bypass valve piping was made by them, and everyone who sees them comments on the precision of the fit and the beautiful welds. The owner of the shop knows his exhausts, and his opinion is that so long as the piping is sized and matched right (so you don't lose velocity or cause turbulence) that in the end good flow is all that's important - at least at high rpm. And really, isn't that what it's all about? :)
I may have one built for the 99T at some point, since it'll be smog exempt in a year and a half, but until then I'm out... :)
