Ross,
All modern engine-management systems are designed to work properly only with an O2 sensor installed - not to sound like a wisea**, but if you didn't want to use the sensor you shouldn't have installed LH!
Installing the sensor is not hard at all. Johann indicated that it would be hard to install it in the exhaust elbow (assuming this is a turbo car?) which is correct. However, there should be no problem installing one in the frontpipe! Drill a hole in the top of the pipe, weld on the correct fitting (search this BBS for previous references to this), and install a heated sensor, making sure the heater circuit is connected properly. I wouldn't try an unheated one as it won't get hot enough in this location.
