It sounds to me like you have a tendency to push your car to preform, porting and polishing the head is a good idea for increased power, but you will still have a weak engine if the rings are starting to go bad. You would probable be better off to rebuild the engine at this point and put off porting and polishing the head until later if cost is a matter. Just remeber, an engine with low compresion due to rings will never perform at its best.
