I think that you need to keep a flex hose between the TB and MAF.
Try to build an air dam that separates the air filter from the engine compartment. That would lower the intake air temperatures a lot.
Air smoothing screens in front of MAFs protect the sensor and they do even out the flow so that the sensor reading represents the flow of the entire cross section.
Did you look at the hole below where your cone filter is now. Some have put the cone filter down below there.
If you modified the MAF, the mixture would change, the O2 sensor would feed back this change and the ECU would then readapt and you would be back where you stated. Change it too much and you get adaption faults, CEL and maybe a limp home running mode.
