I went to Hirsch late last fall to have a Viggen IC installed on my 1999 9-3. While there, I noticed numerous dyno sheets for the then new 9-5 Troll R, while they were developing it. I can't remember the torque numbers but many were indeed well over 300 hp. There was a stack of about 10 of them and most were around 320-327 hp. One did read 334 hp.
So the point of this post is that I do believe there is more potential power available than what they sell. They do just reduce it in the name of emissions and perhaps, reliability. My guess is that the reason is both. Remember that they sell brand new modified cars, and it would look pretty bad if they have reliability problems due to the upgrades. Also, the homologation process has to be done on all the parts they add to the cars, so that is probably what drives the prices up.
I do not doubt the talents of the other major Saab tuners, i.e. Maptun, Abbott, Nordic, SQR and so on. Nordic and Hirsch are expensive, becasue they are unique in that they sell modded cars off the showroom floor and therefore have higher prices due to the extra development stuff they have to carry out.
Just my opinion.
