well not sure on the stage I and II. the whole performance issue obviously boils down to money. my logic was that i had a car with around 160K (one previous owner so it was well maintained, but still 160K is a bit of mileage) it is a 5spd so i know the trans can handle more power (plus i had it rebuilt last summer). i wanted a relatively cheap way to improve performance without having to pay labor etc for mechanical work. the new ecu was $540 gives an improvement (which i believe is accurate) from stock 200 hp and 238 lbs of torque to 240 hp and and 273 lbs of torque. to keep the engine cooler i installed the 82 thermostat. even this summer when it was over 100 for a few day in massachusetts the guage never went above a quarter. regarding boost taper i have yet to see any. the guage as i said under full boost bury's and only pulls back to mid slightyl when its very warm and i am approaching 5k on the tach. this is just my experience and of course it depends on how much money and time you want to put into a car that is approaching a decade ( i think yours is a 93?) just my 2 cents
