Did the Solo II thing Saturday and placed 5th. Not to bad considering (damn cones kept jumping into the air dam...). It was nice seeing some other Saabs running. One 9000 in GS, one SPG in STS...

The real fun was Sunday at Second Creek Raceway for the Solo Trials. Much higher speeds (hit about 85) on a really twisty coarse. I was very nervous since: first, I haven't ever tried track racing, and second, the runoff consist of about 15' then a wall of dirt filled tires. The Viggen stuck very, very well. With all the talk of overheating the abbott brakes, I thought the stock pads would be toast. About a quarter of the field did have to pit to cool their brakes, the Viggen did not. Brake fade didn't hit until the 5th run, and was manageable. I didn't run off, but did pull into the paddock with smoking brakes. Overall, the Viggen was very well behaved on the track. I was even told that the rear tire would lift about 6" when pushing a corner. It was even cool to see the orderly little brake dust deposits on the wheels at the end of each of the rotor slots as they did their job. Lots of fun....

Managed to take a unoffical indexed 9th overall(971 points). Offical 1st in class (I was the only GS car). My lonely Saab did great since most of the drivers placing around me are National SCCA trophy holders (read heavily sponsored), including this years National Champion in GSL. The Saab is much happier at higher speeds than SoloII. Had an absolute blast...

Interesting side note is with the GS index of 0.785, the Saab beat all comers in SS (Corvette Z06 & BMW M3 indexed at 0.836).

Won't get a chance to finish my little triathlon... Looks like I'll miss the drag races later this week.

Later,
Chris Fisher
