Aaron,

You're right about the climate in Sweden, but Saab engineers are no dummies! The 9000 has a cooling system that, when functioning correctly, will keep the temp under control during any normal operating circumstance. Don't forget they also sell these cars in Egypt and other places that get hotter than the good ol' US of A.

Just by way of comparison, a couple years ago I was returning north from a trip to Florida in June. My '86 9000 was completely full with myself, wife, 2 dogs, and enough luggage and other junk you couldn't see out the rear window. But that didn't matter because I was towing a large trailer with 6 windsurfers behind. Winding our way thru the blue ridge mountains at ~70mph, I'd have the car at full boost for minutes at a time (partly due to crappy aerodynamics of trailer). A/C was on at some times and off at others, but it *never* got hot. "Hot" in this case meaning needle past 10:00. And the car was bone stock except for somewhat increased boost via APC modification. 250,000 miles on it, too, at the time.

Consider this: if the temp gauge is accurate, 1/8" below the red should represent about 115 degrees C. At this temperature, an 80C, 82C, an 85C, or even a 90C thermostat would be wide open. It shouldn't make a difference!
