They're probably all 'safe' , to a degree. I doubt if very many people
on this board run WOT in 5th gear for 5 minutes. Most
people use WOT for maybe less than 20 seconds. I've got a friend
who's used an Abbott for a few years now and never had any
problems. However, using an Abbott box and waste-gate controller
means that the APC control, as designed by Saab, will be seriously
attenuated, if detonation or knock should occur.
If he ever did a WOT run on the Autobahn, he'd probably melt the
pistons. But for short bursts of passing Mustangs or Beemers
on the local interstates here in the US, his engine isn't really under
that much load for that long. But, in the end one has to remember
what Clint Eastwood said and ask themselves, "do you feel lucky?"
I don't think any of the tuners are as 'safe' as Hirsch - maybe, Maptun.
But they aren't sanctioned by Saab, eh?
