....a reducer fitting welded onto the end of the cat so it can go from 3" to 2.25"

Also, why not replace your cat back now? You'll save labor costs. Don't take it to the shop twice, and pay twice to have your car worked on. Especially from the cat back it should be easy to bend up. Took my exhaust guy about an hour and a half to bend it up and install it (which included installing a new cat & muffler). If you want, you can do what Chris said, and just have them slap on a 3" pipe with no muffler or resonator.

My theory is... and this is just my theory... you have a straw, which has an inner diameter of .3" at the tip, then halfway, it reduces down to an inner diameter of .225". You put the .3" end up to your mount (the downpipe/cat of your exahust), and blow into it, it will only flow what the most restrictive inner diameter is, the .225" part.

Just my theory

Also, I don't know 9000's too well, but do they have a resonator and a muffler after the cat? If so, get rid of that resonator at the least. It will get rid of that big restriction. It was the first thing I did to my old 89 900S when I had it. If you want to do the same to the muffler it will also reduce the remaining restrictions from your cat back.

Please don't think I'm trying to give you a hard time, it's just what I would do. Just MHO. Trying to help out, that's all ( :

Either way, great investment, let us know how it turns out, good luck!
Happy SAABing!
