Hi all, I drive a Honda Civic Si. I haven't been receiving too many responses to my post on ClubSi.com regarding shocks and I have a SAAB friend who frequents this board and says you guys are very knowledgeable in this area. I'd appreciate it if you can help me out with some questions that I have.
I don't know if this is of some relevance but my car weighs around 2700 lbs, I have Integra Type R springs which are 250(linear front)/250(progressive rear) and I currently have Bilstein HD shocks which are 132(rebound)/124(compression). I want to keep these springs (since I like the height as is now - 0.75 inch drop - so I would have to work with the shocks to make the car stiffer). The car does not feel much stiffer than stock and I've wanted a stiff and firm ride and I'm kinda disappointed. The handling is respectable, I just don't really like the feel. I was looking towards the Bilstein Sport shocks which are 228(rebound)/115(compression) and I'm wondering if the difference would be like night and day if I were to switch from HD to Sport. Remember, 132/124 to 228/115. There's a good amount of rebound increase but compression decreases a tad in the Sport model. Would there be a significant increase in firmness and control?
Also, on a related note, I was right behind a new BMW 330 the other day and even over the smallest of bumps, the car just looks so tight and taut - the suspension reacts quickly and efficiently. The back end comes right back up after hitting a bump. Would the Bilstein Sports more accurately mimic that behavior on my car? That's how I would want my car to look.
Also, I'm thinking of upgrading the stock rubber bushings to poly ones - but there are just so many of them (bushings) - sway bar, upper control arm, lower control arm, trailing arm, spring isolators, shock, ball joint, etc. I'm on a limited budget so I asked my Honda tech which specific bushings would increase the "tightness" look over bumps and he said to upgrade the rear trailing arm ones and the rear upper control arm ones. Is he correct? Do those 2 mainly affect the tightness over bumps? Btw, the Civic has 4 independent double wishbones if that's of any consequence.
Thanks in advance for the help.
