MPH is a direct function of RPM. Drive at 2000 RPM and check speedo; drive at 4000 RPM in same gear and check speedo. Second speed will be double the first (within the accuracy of your ability to control the RPM). The problems with this are:
1. Tachometers and speedometers are not accurate but can show some different errors at different positions on the dial
2. Trasnmission slippage goes up with increasing speed even with a manual clutch. SO as you increase speed, the engine will go up in revolutions a little more than the output shafts, depending on the amount of slip across the clutch/automatic. Short of having a dog clutch, which cannot slip, this is a fact of life.
3. You may not be able to reach redline on tachometer due to air resritsance. It needds a hell of a lot of power to push a school bus to the redline in top gear - it requires possibly more power than you engine provides to push your car to the redline. It's a function of the drag of your car, the (tail or head) wind, the pressure in the tires, even whetehr the antenna is up or (better) down
