I just completed a 9000 turbo clutch upgrade for my recently aquired 1990 SPG. It needed clutch work, and I was planning on doing some mods, so I didn't want to put a stock clutch in. I initially purchased a clutch for a 2.3l turbo 1991-1993, which, contrary to information on this site, does not fit a c900 turbo flywheel. The bolt circle on the 2.3l pressure plate is larger that the circle on the flywheel. Upon investigation, I found that the 1986-1990 2.0l 9000 trubo uses the same pressure plate as the 1990- 1994 c900 turbo. I then purchased a separate pressure plate, release bearing, and the 9000T clutch. It is 9" in diameter, and the inside diameter is actually a little smaller then the 900. It winds up being 19.78% larger. It weighs 13.5 ounces more than the used clutch with 140k miles. It is now in and works very well, no interference, very smooth starts, but I won't know how much better it holds until I have finished playing.
Many thanks to Jim Moncrief at Sobstory, one of this site's sponsors. I discussed my plans with him before I bought the 2.3l clutch set and he agreed to take it back with no restocking charge if it didn't fit. He also was able to confirm for me that the Saab part numbers were the same for the 2.0l 9000T and the 1990-1994 c900T. Both orders were shipped out with no delay and received within a couple of days. The full cost of the upgrade was less than $190.00 including shipping. A lot less than any of the other performance clutch options.
